why is the status quo to look the other way in the face of loss? why are we afraid to fully experience our grief? why are we expected to move on so quickly, to rush a return to normal after tragedy? what is death? what do we think about our own mortality? why won’t we talk about it?

to join hands, as we are, in all our suffering and sadness, is a powerful form of solidarity in times of crisis and despair. our annual event, SPIDERDEAD, creates a sacred space where all our individual and collective feelings of loss and grief can be held without judgement and explored without the confines of societal norms. this temporary autonomous zone allows for the liberation of expectations- it welcomes a heavy heart, it encourages us to hold space for one another in a revolutionary act of community care. it is a funeral for who we were and what we’ve lost. it is an acknowledgement of all that goes unspoken. it is a place to experience death so we can better appreciate life.
