As you may know, last month the Wake & Bake team participated in #BakersAgainstRacism, a national project put on by culinary artists all over the country in support of #BlackLivesMatter, raising funds for organizations and initiatives directly impacting Black communities and lives. Thanks to our incredible community of bakers and baked-goods-appreciators, we were able to donate $550 for The Okra Project, a collective seeking to address the global crisis of violence by providing mental health resources and meals to Black Trans people worldwide.
We were so #pleased about the success of our first Wake & Bake Against Racism Box that we decided to keep it up, because after all, Black lives matter EVERY F*CKING DAY FOREVER, and not just until the movement is out of the public eye. We want to continue to use this platform to help fight injustices in our own community and beyond, so this month we’re splitting our fundraising efforts between Green Tree Estates, a predominantly Hispanic, working class community in Denton, Texas whose access to water was cut off last year, and House of Rebirth, a Dallas network of communities that develop sustainable resources to enhance and protect the lives of Black trans women! With our fantastic friends joining the action we will be putting together a delicious box of surprise treats. For $25 (we are only accepting PayPal through the link at this time) you will get a delicious assortment of 12+ baked goods made by local artisans and the knowledge that your hard earned dollars will be supporting good causes. The boxes will be available for local pickup* on Saturday, July 11 at Spiderweb HQ from 10-noon. (Once your order is complete, we will email you with details on pickup location.)
*Out of respect for our volunteers, be sure to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing at pickup! Please also note that you (or a friend!) will need to pick up your goods during the arranged pick-up time or you may not receive your box.
